Teaching Tools

The following are just my opinions and meanings developed over 25 years of playing and coaching professionally both in golf and basketball... again, it's just what I think...something I call my teaching tools...

After setting the goal or goals the student/player then makes the mental choice to be a winner and act like one. Setting the small goals each and everyday that will lead to accomplishing one's goals. It's not harder than that, but people need help, motivation, ideas, a good kick in the butt, no seriously, setting and working twords goals is the key to getting whatever a person might want, whether it be in sports and/or life itself...

My philosophy in teaching the game of golf, basketball or any sport is based on the motor skills of every individual student.

Muscle memory is the key to any sporting act. Golf, in my opinion is the hardest skill sport in the world. It requires a different approach in regards to learning and trying to master the movements and mindset of the game. Basketball and other team sports also require many of the same qualities when it comes to learning the motor skills that are needed, but for me the approach to coaching team sports is naturally different than an individual sport such as golf.

The traditional teaching method is useful with all first time students but the key for short and long term improvement comes from developing the correct motor skills. This will enable the student to work at a higher pace and the results will come faster than you can possibly believe.

Once the student understands the objective with my different drills he or she has the potential to not only understand the motor skills movements but can in all practical purposes master their own game.

I’m not talking rocket science here, but I have used the past 25 years to simplify my Teaching Tools Philosophy both for golf and basketball into easy to understand, easy to do, and most important for the student, easy to master drills that give fast and lasting results.

The key for the student is to not think too much and just do the drills for the agreed time frame. Not cheat them self by slipping a day here and there. The age and experience of the student has some bearing but the principles are the same. I always take into account the students “now situation” and create an individual improvement plan.

Mental training is one of my biggest interests and I have developed my own techniques for achieving success both on and off the course/court and more important in our personal lives. Finding the goals, the game plane, the right balance, and giving each player/student the best possible chance for reaching their individual/team goals is what drives this coach to keep learning and trying to give my all to each and every one of my players/students.
